## From operating Claude to steering Claude

There is a mental shift that happens somewhere around this point. You stop thinking of Claude as a tool you operate and start thinking of it as a collaborator you steer. The difference is subtle but profound.

Tezlab's support system started as a straightforward ticket-response tool. Then we added an investigative layer — infrastructure monitoring, log analysis, pattern detection. The system went from reacting to support tickets to proactively identifying operational improvements nobody had asked about. Hosting costs dropped 20%. Not because anyone asked the system to optimize hosting. Because the system saw the pattern and surfaced it.

That is not a faster workflow. That is a different kind of workflow. You are not at your desk, you are not in your IDE, and you are still shipping. The computer is doing the work. You are giving direction.

This is the L3 → L4 transition. At L3, Claude is connected to your data and tools. At L4, you have internalized that you do not need to be at the keyboard to use them. The mental model flips from "I operate Claude" to "Claude operates, and I steer."
